The
UCLA-GCRC nursing staff is comprised of the Unit Director, Clinical Nurse Specialist, 15 FTE (full-time
equivalent) registered nurses and one L.V.N.. The GCRC staff provides expert research care for
study participants in the UCLA-GCRC and collaborates with
investigators for the coordination and performance of clinical research.
The Unit Director and
Clinical Nurse Specialist are available to assist the coordination and implementation of a research protocol, patient safety,
patient, family, and staff education.
The
goal of the nursing staff is the continual improvement of the quality of clinical
research. The GCRC nurses practice patient-focused care, involving patients
and their families in the nursing care during the research. The nurses foster
an environment of learning for both patients and the professional staff. They
review research projects, implement studies, provide continuing education for
staff, conduct clinical research with skill and expertise, demonstrating leadership
in order to improve nursing practice and efficiently serve the needs of study
subjects and investigators.
The
UCLA-GCRC nurses adhere to a code of ethics (Code for Nurses, 1980) and to accepted
standards (ANA Standards of Nursing Practice, 1987) of excellence in practice.
